Changes in Excise Tax in Vaping Products

We want to bring your attention to an important update regarding the excise tax on vaping products. As outlined in the Budget 2024 released by the Government of Canada on April 16th, there will be an increase in the Vaping Product Excise Tax, effective July 1, 2024.

The proposed tax rate will now be applied per container at $1.12 per 2mL for the first 10mL, followed by $1.12 per 10mL or fraction thereof above the initial 10mL.

Furthermore, when the government formulated the regulations on excise tax on October 1st, 2022, they granted each province the option to collect excise duty on vaping products if they chose to do so.  The following provinces have decided to collect excise duty on all vaping products, including e-liquids, disposables, and pre-filled pods as of July 1st, 2024:

- Ontario
- Quebec
- Northwest Territories
- Nunavut

Alberta and Manitoba will follow suit as of January 1st, 2025.
